Veda Marie Orth

Veda Marie Hasenyager Orth was born on February 5, 1937 at a farm home near Palco, KS to
parents Virgil Hasenyager and Katie (DeBoer) Hasenyager. Her mother, Katie, passed away 4 days
following her birth due to childbirth complications leaving two sons (Clifford and Francis) and baby
Veda to raise. Her father, Virgil, was called to serve in the Army shortly after Veda's birth. During that
time, her brothers went to live in a Children's Home in Newton, KS and Veda was raised by her
grandparents, Frank and Mamie (Jorn) Hasenyager in Norcatur, KS. The brothers were later
separated when younger brother, Francis (later named Edward), was adopted by a family in Wichita,
KS. Clifford later went to live with their grandparents, Frank and Mamie Hasenyager. Many years
later, the siblings and their families were all reunited, what a special reunion that was!
Veda graduated from Norcatur High School in May 1955. She worked at the Arnett Accounting Office
in Norton, KS following graduation, then later accepted a job at the bank in Norcatur, KS. She
moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked at Hamilton Management Investment Company and
attended night classes at Central Business College. She was very active in her youth church group
and got the opportunity to travel with friends on a mission trip to Iceland to renovate an old Stone
Church by the Sea that had not been used for over one hundred years. They later traveled to Europe
including touring St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican in Rome, Italy. Veda often reminisced that they
rented a car, and she did most of the driving which was a little nerve racking she said!
While living in Denver, she attended a Lutheran Youth Group picnic at Genesee Mountain Park
where she met Marvin who just happened to be attending the same event. After dating for several
months, she and Marvin were married June 17, 1962, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Denver.
Veda then came to live with Marvin on the family farm northwest of St. Francis. Their first child,
Roger Allan was born two years later November 1, 1964, and their daughter, Cynthia Lynn on
August 14, 1968.
Veda was highly active in the Salem Lutheran Church including Sunday School teaching, bible study,
choir, piano accompanist, church committees and synod groups. She was an avid gardener and
loved spending time in her large vegetable garden and multiple flower beds. Her canned dill pickles
and baked rhubarb pie were family favorites. She enjoyed helping Marvin on the farm and loved
spending time with her family. After almost 58 years on the farm, they moved to town in the fall of
2020. At that time grandson-in-law Tyler Lauer and granddaughter Trista, moved out to the family
farm and took over the family operation. After Marvin's passing in 2023, Veda moved to the
Cheyenne Co. Village where she made many friends and enjoyed all the activities up until her
passing. Veda enjoyed life and cherished all of her friends and family, and was very proud of the
accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She touched so many lives and will truly be
missed!
Veda is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, parents Virgil and Katie Hasenyager, brother
Clifford Hasenyager and sister-in-law Inge Hasenyager, brother Edward Rude and sister-in-law Emily
Rude. She is survived by son Roger (Terri) Orth, daughter Cynthia (Chris) Bancroft, grandchildren
Trista (Tyler) Lauer, Ashlee (Nathan) Forbes, Alec Bancroft, Abigail Bancroft, great-grandchildren
Kaiden Lauer, Kailey Lauer, and Kasidee Lauer, Eloise Forbes and many more family and friends.
