Troy Dean Burr was born on February 5, 1955 at St. Francis, KS. His parents, Willis L Burr and Bonnie Reade Burr, welcomed him home to the Burr family farm, four miles north of Bird City. Troy died at his home in Bird City on May 6, 2023, at the age of 68, after living his entire life in the Bird City community.

Troy attended the Bird City schools from Kindergarten through high school, graduating from Bird City Rural High School with the class of 1973. After high school, he attended York College, graduating in 1975. He then attended Abilene Christian University graduating with a degree in agronomy in 1977.

After graduation, Troy returned to Bird City where he worked for local farmers and with his dad on the Burr family farm. He eventually took over the operation and management of the farm. He worked on the farm for 40 years and eventually turning it over to his son, Matt. After retiring from his own farm, he started farming with his friend Ned Smith at Smith Family Farms and continued until his death.

On June 2, 1995, Troy's life changed when he married Cindy. Not only did he become a husband but also a father to Natasha, Shannon and Matt. Troy's joys included being a husband, dad, granddad, and great granddad. He really enjoyed being involved with his kids and grand kids activities including football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, soccer, 4-H, volleyball, soccer, and dance recitals just to name a few. He enjoyed farming and ranching, and the relationships he formed with neighbors and friends. Golfing or also known as "checking the grass" with his golfing buddies was enjoyed, especially the famous golf trips they took over the years.

Troy was very involved in community, civic and church activities. He served on the Farm Bureau board locally as well as for the State of Kansas. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ, serving as a lay leader and treasurer. Troy was on the Bird City cemetery board and also was elected Mayor of Bird City as well as a Council Member. He served on many local boards and helped at the Tri-State Antique Engine and Thresher Association.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Vicki, sister-in-law Elizabeth Burr, father-in-law Ron Curry, and brother-in-law Roger Curry. He is survived by his wife Cindy, children Natasha Wilson, Shannon Wilson (Megan), and Matt Wilson (Sara), mother-in-law Libby Curry, brothers Terry Burr, Tim Burr (Robin) and Ted Burr, sisters-in-laws Cara Weeden (Rod) and Christy Wurm (Shane), Grandchildren Bailey Cooper (Gavin), Taylor Wilson (Kelsey), Hunter, Alix and Tylee Wilson, Carter, Landyn, and Beckett Wilson, and Noa Wolaver and Great Grandchildren Bowen Wilson and Graham Cooper and a host of relatives and friends.
