Obituary

Roger Faulkender, a lifelong resident of Saint Francis, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the Cheyenne County Hospital in Saint Francis, Kansas.

Roger was born November 4, 1948 in Saint Francis, Kansas to Howard "Phiz" and Grace Faulkender.  He had one brother, Stanley, who helped him keep their parents on their toes with their endless adventures and shenanigans.  Roger enjoyed playing sports in high school, especially playing football and being part of the Saint Francis Indian State Wrestling championship team.

After graduating high school, he went on to play football for four years at Fort Hays State University, where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in industrial arts.  In 1967, Roger married Joyce Douthit.  After college, he and Joyce returned to Saint Francis to start their life and family.  Over the years, they welcomed four children, Troy, Tye, Leigh Ann and Lori Beth.

Throughout the years, Roger enjoyed working on the family farm and ranch.  He spent many years getting cattle ready with his brother-in-law and father-in-law for the National Western Stock Show in Denver.  He also looked forward to wheat harvest every year.  In addition to his love of the land, Roger enjoyed and believed in giving back to his community, whether it was being on the local school board, leading his children's 4-H club, having fun times with his buddies doing fair parade antics or serving numerous years as a county commissioner.

Roger also loved to have good times and then telling stories about them!  He spent years raising coon dogs and going on coon hunts with friends.  He had lots of stories about the hours spent on the golf course with friends and traveled to many Senior golf tournaments later in life.  He cherished spending time at the cabin he built along the riverbottom, something he was very proud of.  But what he enjoyed the most, was just visiting, telling jokes, sharing his opinions and laughing with the crew at Majestic and over evening pops with his friends at the golf course.

Although, what he valued most was his family.  He spent countless hours watching his childrens' sporting activities and then his grandchildrens' in later years.  He was always present to show his support, whether just enjoying the kids play during holidays, going fishing with his grandsons, attending weekly family meals with the Riegers, watcher his children and grandchildren show their livestock, road trips to Texas with Leigh Ann and his grandkids, or riding along with his son Tye on the golf course during men's night.

He is survived by his children; Tye Faulkender (Amber), Leigh Ann Bandel (Mike), and Lori Beth Rieger (Cale), all of Saint Francis, Kansas; a brother, Stanley Faulkender (Sheri) of Hays, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Cody Faulkender (Emily) of Oakley, Kansas, Tayrn Faulkender of Hays, Kansas, Judy Faulkender (Bri) of Colby, Kansas, Jake Faulkender of Garden City, Kansas, Jordyn Faulkender of Omaha, Nebraska, Mason Rieger, Max Rieger, Myles Rieger, Hallie Rieger all of Saint Francis, Kansas; two great granddaughters, Raegan and Kamryn Faulkender; along with numerous extended relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Troy Faulkender, and parents, Phiz and Grace Faulkender.
