Celebrating the life of Kent Voorhies….

Robert Kent Voorhies crossed into the embrace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday May 11, 2023, at the age 80. Kent was born on December 16th 1942, and was the first of 4 children born to Bob and Trudy Voorhies. He grew up on the family farm alongside his brother Terry, and his sisters Sheri and Kim. Kent attended school in Bird City and loved all sports, especially football. His teammates gave him the nickname "Horse" and the nickname stuck. He was able to continue playing football at Kansas Wesleyan University. While at college, a blind date was arranged and he was introduced to Margaret McWilliams. It was love at first sight. On December 23, 1963, Kent and Margaret were married. To this marriage, they were blessed with 4 children: Robert Alan, Jeanette, Rachelle, and Stephen.

Some of the extraordinary accomplishments Kent achieved during his lifetime included being a private pilot, an EMT, a Gideon, a realtor, and Long-term Care Administrator. He also obtained a bachelor's degree and telecommunication degree and had a lifetime calling to farming and livestock. The most rewarding achievement, however, was receiving Jesus Christ as his savior during a Billy Graham crusade television program. This changed the course of his life and that of his family.

He thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family and listening to the laughter and bantering that would come from every get-together. He was creative, resourceful, and an entrepreneur at heart. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, taking his family water skiing, and snow skiing. He was able to take the family on a couple special trips with the most notable one to Germany to see his son Alan, who was stationed with the 79th combat engineer unit in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Kent is proceeded in death by his father and mother, his brother Terry, and son-in-law Jeff White. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, children Robert Alan Voorhies (Sabrina) of El Paso Tx. Jeanette (Jeff) Unger of Rexford, KS. Rachelle (Pete) Heydt of Topeka, KS. and Stephen (Jamie) of Peachtree City, GA. Kent was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Tyler, Malcom, Talisa, Nicole, Tiernan, Olivia, Samantha, Alison, Macey, Kassidy, Ryle and 8 great grandchildren, Rayvn, Emerson, Charlie, Reece, Tucker, Maya, Rigley, Easton, and one on the way. He is also survived by his sisters Sheri (Bernie) Pacheco, Kim (Dwight) Faylor, and sister-in-law Carol (Terry) Voorhies, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

His greatest wish for all is to know the good news and the hope of salvation. Amen.
