Rell Dean Zimbelman was born on May 24, 1957, in St. Francis, Kansas, to Ruben and Barbara (Miller) Zimbelman. Sadly, he passed away on May 28, 2023, at the age of 66 at Sandpiper Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Wichita, Kansas. The cause of his passing was due to complications from multiple strokes.

Rell completed his high school education at St. Francis Community High School in 1975. Afterward, he pursued further education at Salina Area Technical College and Kansas State University. During his time at Kansas State University, he came close to earning an Engineering Degree, only a few credit hours short of graduation. However, he decided to return home to the family farm and join his father in farming. He worked on the family farm for a significant period. Most recently, he held the position of Sales Manager at Yost Ford for approximately 10 years. This role at Yost Ford allowed him to explore his skills in sales and management in a different professional setting. Rell's experience both in farming and as a Sales Manager showcases his versatility and commitment to his work.

Rell and Tammy Underwood were married on May 10, 1980. They moved to the family farm in 1981 and together, they raised their two sons, Kale Dean (born January 26, 1982) and Lee Ruben (born May 14, 1987). Although Rell and Tammy later divorced, they maintained a strong and supportive friendship. Despite the end of their marital relationship, they remained best friends, continuing to care for and support each other throughout their lives. Their enduring friendship speaks to the mutual respect and deep connection they shared beyond their marriage.

Rell had successfully overcome his own addiction and maintained his sobriety for 18 years, which is a remarkable achievement. He was actively involved in Narcotics Anonymous. His dedication to his recovery and his involvement in helping others with their addictions through Narcotics Anonymous demonstrates his strength and commitment.

The Rolling Stones, known for their iconic rock music and energetic performances,
brought him joy and memorable experiences. His appreciation for the band and their music
added to his life's passions and interests.

Rell's grandchildren, Derek and Julia, and soon-to-be-born Baby boy Zimbelman in October, held a special place in his heart, and they were the highlight of his life. He treasured the time he spent with them, and when he could make the trip to Emporia, he made sure to spoil them. Being able to create precious memories and shower them with love brought him great joy and fulfillment. The bond between Rell and his grandchildren was undoubtedly a source of immense happiness for him.

Rell was preceded in death by his parents; Ruben and Barbara Zimbelman; step-father, Paul Raile; grandparents Peter and Margaret Zimbelman and Leonard and Helen Miller and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include: Son Kale (Robbie Reed) of Wichita, Kansas; son Lee (Cami); grandchildren Derek and Julia and Baby Boy Zimbelman due in October, of Emporia, Kansas; former wife and best friend, Tammy Underwood Zimbelman of Emporia, Kansas; sisters Myra (John) Engelkes of Sonoma, California; Sherry (Odie) Sudbeck of Olsburg, Kansas; nephews Gary, Jeff and Kelly Sudbeck and families. And a host of other family and many friends. Memorial services will be held on July 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in St. Francis. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery.
