St. Francis

Obituary

Neil Edwin Zweygardt died peacefully surrounded by family on April 16th, 2026, at the Cheyenne County Hospital.  He was born on November 8th, 1951 in St. Francis to Edwin and Alma Zweygardt.  Neil grew up on the family farm north of St. Francis, the second of four children.  He and his big brother, Larry, were very close growing up.

Neil was 19 when he married Patty Ann Amack on August 21st, 1971 at the Salem Lutheran Church.  Together they shared 54 years of love, life, and family.  To this marriage they welcomed two sons, Michael Lee and Chad Lynn.

Neil farmed most of his life.  He enjoyed being on a tractor and listening to his country music.  He worked for Schoenrogge Drilling for 15 years and the Cheyenne County Road Department for 22 years.  The best part of any job he had was the people-Neil liked the casual conversations, stories shared, and a few pranks pulled along the way.

Neil enjoyed hunting, fishing, old western movies, and his farmwork.  But…none of these could compare to the joy his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him.  Kyler, Shalyn, Taryn, and Lukas would tell you that "Grandpa never missed anything"-he was at every event they were involved in and supported them in all that they did.

In the last four years he really enjoyed helping Patty babysit their great grandchildren.  His eyes would sparkle every time he would hear his great grandkids voices.  They definitely kept him moving and they loved him very much!

Neil is proceeded in death by his parents Edwin and Alma Zweygardt, his brother Larry (Terry) Zweygardt, his Father-in-law Alvin Amack, and his brother-in-law Johnny Amack. He is survived by his wife Patty Zweygardt, his sons Michael (Trisha) Zweygardt and Chad Zweygardt, his grandchildren Kyler (Dani) Zweygardt, Shalyn Zweygardt, Taryn (Julia, Kellie, Sara) Zweygardt, and Lukas Zweygardt, his great-grandchildren Oaklyn, Kolsen, and Brexlee Zweygardt, Daisy Zweygardt, and Amara Zweygardt.  He is also survived by numerous extended family.
