Obituary

Mary Christine Anderson (nee Huelle) was born to Ella and Martin Huelle on January 15, 1938, in Meadow Grove, NE. Mary passed away at Hillcrest Cottages, Papillion, NE on February 9, 2023.

Raised in and around Norfolk, NE, Mary was the eldest of five children born to Ella and Martin. After graduating high school, Mary attended Norfolk Community College and then the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN. Upon receiving her certification as a medical technician, Mary accepted a position at Rock County Hospital in Basset, NE. It was there in the Sand Hills of Nebraska that she met and married James D. Anderson (Jim) of Long Pine, NE.

Throughout her life Mary was a friend to many and a stalwart supporter of her husband and his family in their business ventures. As Jim was helping to operate both Anderson Market and the pavilion at Hidden Paradise, Mary was right there with him. Their two sons, Jim and Michael were born while in Long Pine. Their family moved to Bird City in 1967 where they had purchased a grocery store and butchering business which grew to become a fixture in rural NW Kansas.

Upon retirement in 1983, Mary and Jim had many wonderful travel experiences, particularly in and around the Hill Country of Texas. Mary was an accomplished quilter and did beautiful needlework. Mary spent many hours with quilting groups in Bird City and then Papillion. Her quilts now grace the beds of many family members and friends. After Jim's passing in 2008, Mary remained in Bird City until 2011, when she moved to Hillcrest County Estates in Papillion. As one of the early residents of the "villas", Mary helped to create a wonderful sense of community and friendship among those who continue to call Hillcrest home.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Ella and Matin Huelle, and one brother Harlan Huelle. She is survived by sisters Donna (Ike) Isenberg of Omaha, NE and Nancy Goos of Papillion, NE, and brother Rick (Lisa) Huelle, also of Omaha, NE; two sons James A. (Beth) Anderson of Chesterfield , MO and Michael N. (Tim Buckenmyer) Anderson and 'granddog' Frankie of Chicago; two grandsons Brad (Tiffany) Anderson of Chesterfield, MO and Jared (Suzy) Anderson of Webster Groves, MO; four great-grandchildren, James, Catherine, Charlotte, and Isabelle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
