Marvin Harold Miller, 88, passed away on January 10, 2026.

Marvin was born on May 23, 1937, in Cheyenne County, Kansas, to Harold and Hollis (Bowers) Miller. He entered the world during a dust storm, born at home with wet sheets covering the windows—a fitting beginning for a man whose life would be rooted in resilience, community, and Kansas tradition.

He graduated from St. Francis Community High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Anita Marie Raile, on September 2, 1956. Together they shared a loving marriage and raised four children: Tim (Jennifer) Miller of St. Francis, Terry (Mary Beth) Miller of The Villages, Florida, Todd (Debbi) Miller of Colby, Kansas, and Tyra (Bryan) Alldaffer of Edwardsville, Kansas.

7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Marvin began his working life at Morris Hatchery, followed by employment with Jim Manson , and later Southwestern Bell, where he worked in telecommunications and commercial services. His career took the family to Colby, Hays, Lawrence, and Topeka before he ultimately returned to St. Francis, where he remained until his death. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1997 after 40 years of service.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Marvin played football and basketball in high school and carried his love of sports throughout his life. Basketball, hunting, and fishing were especially close to his heart, and he proudly passed these passions on to his children, teaching each of them how to shoot and encouraging them in athletics and life.

Marvin was known for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Friends and family alike could count on him to share a story or two—often about a practical joke he'd played or a laugh he'd given someone. He was a gracious and memorable host, well known for hosting frog leg frys and enjoying a glass of Jack Daniel's.

He was a devoted fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, loved cheering them on, and was deeply involved in his community. Marvin wrote numerous articles for the St. Francis Herald and served as emcee for local football games and the fair parade.

He also cherished a special friendship with astronaut Ron Evans of Apollo 17 and was honored to be a guest for the only nighttime Apollo launch—an experience he treasured.

Marvin will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, loyal friend, storyteller, sportsman, and community fixture. His humor, generosity, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
