Obituary

Helen Louise Sidles Johnson
Helen Louise Sidles Johnson passed away Wednesday May 21,
2025 in Atwood, Ks. Helen was born December 19, 1930 on a
small farm outside of Grinnell, Ks. She was the second child
born to Ruth and Dick Sidles. These were hard times during the
"dirty 30's" and although the family struggled at times, Helen
attended school, and was a proud to graduate from Atwood
High School in 1948.
It was during this time that Helen met the handsome Robert
"Bob" Johnson, who was destined to be her future everything!
When Helen's father decided to move the family (which now
included 5 children) to Salina, Helen refused to go. She was
working as a telephone operator in Atwood and had big plans
with Mr. Bob Johnson, so she was not leaving! Helen and Bob
were married shortly after on January 12, 1949, and shared 73
years together, until Bob's passing in October 2022.
Helen's life with Bob was that of a mother to 3 boys, a farm
wife and a homemaker. Packing daily lunches, taking "full"
meals to the harvest field, driving silage truck and moving
hand move sprinkler pipe, during the growing season, was
what she did. Many hours were also spent making beautiful
quilts and handiwork.
Having Christmas at their house every year was special to
Helen. With a big meal waiting, the tree was trimmed and lots
of presents wrapped neatly underneath.
Her 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren brought
her joy. Upon Bob & Helen's retirement, Helen spent many
years traveling with Bob while he served on the board now
known as Prairieland Electric making many memories and
friends.
Helen is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Bob, son
Rob, granddaughter Jessica and brothers Bill, Ken and Dick.
She is survived by her sons Ron and Rod (wife Lisa), sister
Sherri, 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
