Remembering the Life of Garry Seymour

Garry Seymour passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 with his wife by his side. Garry was born August 11, 1941 to Ralph Seymour and Vivian Scheel Seymour. He was the oldest of four children. Garry attended Bird City High School graduating in 1959. Garry was active in all sports and academics, friends made in high school, remain friends to this day, including competitors from other towns.

After attending Kansas Wesleyan College, Garry joined his father and family farming and ranching until his retirement. Garry married the love of his life Karol Whittington Seymour on June 24, 1962. Garry and Karol were so fortunate to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with their family in Maui; truly a trip of a lifetime.

During the years of farming and raising a family; Garry and Karol spent many hours supporting their girls play and participate in sports, the Pom Pom Squad and academics.

Garry and many local farmers were instrumental in forming the Western Kansas Ground Water Conservation District. He served as a board member for several years. Seymour Farms won the Kansas Bankers Award for soil conservation in 1973, an award that Garry was very proud of.

Garry loved his wife, his daughters, his granddaughters, his dogs, and farming.

Garry loved road trips and often took detours to stop and explore to see other farming practices. He loved to share with his friends and children what he had discovered during his and Karol's travels.

Garry loved sports, playing town team basketball, snow skiing, Kansas State University football and basketball, the Denver Broncos, and always March Madness.

Retirement included Garry and Karol golfing with family and friends across the states of Kansas, Utah, Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Mexico, and Scotland. And a River cruise where he became a wine aficionado.

Garry loved to catch-up with his girls on Sunday mornings to talk about what was going on in their lives, sports, and the weather.

Garry never knew a stranger and always loved talking to everyone he met, whether on the ski slope, an airplane, during intermission at the plays that he enjoyed with his daughters, and any old bar stool; local or otherwise. Garry's infectious smile always welcomed many to share.

Garry was a lifelong member of the Bird City United Methodist Church.

Surviving Garry are Karol of the home, daughters Teresa Seymour (Emery Cahoj), Castle Rock, CO; Lisa Seymour, Overland Park, KS; Tarina Sheridan and granddaughters Madison and Morgyn Rae, Houston, TX.; Nichole Seymour (Charlie Aguilar) and daughters Melissa, Jolene and Karlie, Houston TX.; Brother Craig Seymour (Lynette Seymour), sister-in-law Evelyn Turvey (Ralph Turvey), brother-in-law Harry Whittington and extended nieces and nephews.

Preceding Garry in death, parents Ralph and Vivian Seymour, sister Marianne Bressler, brother-in-law Bob Bressler, brother Doug Seymour, sister-in-law Anna Mae Stevenson and her husband Bill Stevenson.

Memorials in honor of Garry Seymour may be made to the Bird City United Methodist Church.
