Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Sherlock (Golemboski)

February 4, 1932 -August 14, 2026

Elizabeth Marie Sherlock (Golemboski), lovingly known throughout her life as Betty, age 94, longtime resident of St. Francis, Kansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 14, 2026 in Beloit, KS.

Betty was born on February 4, 1932, in Levant, Kansas, to Joseph and Justina Golemboski. From an early age, family was at the heart of who she was. On August 25, 1951, Betty was married in faith to Harold “Pete” Sherlock at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, Kansas. Together, Betty and Pete began a life rooted in faith, family, and love. They lived for a time at Fort Riley, Kansas, and later in Nebraska, before eventually settling in St. Francis, Kansas, where they made their home and raised their family. More than anything, Betty wanted to be a mother, and her family became one of the greatest joys and blessings of her life.

Family was at the heart of Betty’s life. She especially loved having everyone gathered together—playing games around the table, sharing stories and laughter, and enjoying one of the many meals she lovingly prepared. She had a wicked sense of humor and a way of bringing warmth and laughter wherever her family gathered.

One of the ways Betty most naturally showed her love was through cooking. Her legendary cinnamon rolls will long be remembered, as will her ability to stretch a meal to make room for anyone who might stop in at mealtime. There was always room for one more at Betty's table.

Betty loved reading, snuggling babies, sewing, playing games, and, above all, being surrounded by her family. Her strength, determination, grace, humility, and faith are part of the legacy she leaves behind.

Baptized in the Catholic Church, Betty carried her faith throughout her life and passed it on to her family. She will be remembered for the countless ways she lived out her faith through the simple things she did every day. Her family will carry with them cherished memories of gathering around her table, sharing laughter and time together, and the love she poured into the generations that followed her.

Betty is survived by her children, Thia, Kathy, Pat (Matt Keas), Karen (Ray Buyle), Gil, Angie (Hoover), Bryon (Brenna), Julie (Justin Dautel), and Sara (Scott Houtman); 20 grandchildren; more than 50 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Pete” Sherlock; her parents, Joseph and Justina Golemboski; and her siblings, Frank Golemboski, Julia Thomas, Victoria Hume, Margaret Sinclair, Dorothy Beckman, Helen Ribordi, Joseph Golemboski, and Edward Golemboski.

She will be honored at a Celebration of Life and Rosary at Knodel Funeral Home Friday, August 21 starting with visitation at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, August 22, 10:00 a.m. CDT at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the service concluding at the St Francis Cemetery.

Memorials can be sent to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church St Francis, KS or in care of Knodel Funeral Home.
