Eldon Floyd Walden
October 1, 1946 – April 26, 2026
Eldon Floyd Walden, a man defined by his quick wit and the land he worked, passed away on April 26, 2026. Born on October 1, 1946 in Littlefield, TX to Rhesa and Mary Walden. Eldon grew up in Bird City and played football for the Bird City High School team, and truly loved his home.
In 1965, Eldon married the love of his life, Laura Thomas. After spending several years in Colorado, the pull of his roots brought them back to Bird City in 1974 to work on the family farm. Eldon and Laura took immense pride in their home, transforming the family farm into a gathering place where neighbors and family alike came to enjoy fishing and swimming in the pond.
For Eldon, the best part of the day was often the simplest: watching the fountain in the pond dance against a backdrop of a brilliant Kansas sunset, and sitting on the deck with a fire crackling, ready to launch into one of his legendary stories. He was known throughout the community for his remarkable storytelling and a witty sense of humor that could light up any room.
Following Laura's passing in 2020, Eldon moved into town, where he remained a fixture of the community. He spent many happy hours socializing and sharing laughs with friends at Big Ed's Steakhouse. Above all else, Eldon cherished his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather, but held a particularly soft spot for his great-grandchildren—Karsen, Owen, Maggie, and Miles—who were the light of his later years.
Eldon is survived by his children, Tony (Bobbie) Walden and Tammy (Damian Pascetti) and Damian's three children; his grandchildren, Mandie (Jared), Chris (Keshia); and his great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Carolyn and Becky, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, dear friends and his dog Sadie.
Funeral service will be held at the Bird City Legion Hall Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 at 10:00am with lunch following the service. A memorial fund contributing to Century Two of Bird City has been created: https://gnwkcf.org/gift-in-honor-of-eldon/
