Elaine Elvira Johnson passed away on Sunday, January 29th, 2023, at Cheyenne County Hospital. She was 95 years old and had just celebrated her birthday with her children at Cheyenne County Village.

She was born January 26th, 1928 to Matthias and Sophie Goltl, in Ludell, Kansas. She was a year old when her father purchased the farm south of McDonald, Kansas, where she grew up. She attended McDonald elementary and high school, and was active at St. John Lutheran in Luther league, was confirmed, and enjoyed teaching Sunday school.

Elaine had eight siblings: two brothers and six sisters. She was the second youngest of her siblings. She studied pre-nursing at Texas Lutheran, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marymount, Salina, KS in 1952. She loved being a nurse.

She met Oscar Johnson Jr. in Concordia, KS during nursing school. They were married on December 28th, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church. They later moved to a farm south of Bird City, and had three children: Ken, Brent, and Debby.

While being a busy wife and mother, she worked in several hospitals and Good Samaritan homes in Saint Francis, Goodland, and Atwood, Kansas and Benkelman, Nebraska. She also worked in home health in Goodland. She loved caring for people and always wanted to make a difference.

Elaine loved being a mother and caring for others throughout her nursing career and life. She loved baking homemade wheat bread, gardening, reading her Bible, playing the piano, and studying nutrition. She supported her children participating in piano lessons, Boy Scouts, FFA, 4-H, sports, and school programs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar in 2006, and her son Ken in 2016, by her parents, Matt and Sophie, by her sisters Helen, Irene, Esther, Edith, and by her brothers Elmer and Laverne. She is survived by her sisters Evelyn Botti and Jane Casa both of California, and by her children Brent and Debby.
