David Eugene Straub was born July 2, 1947 in Benkelman, Nebraska and passed away on August 10, 2023 at the age of 76 at Cheyenne County Hospital, St. Francis, Kansas.
Dave, as he liked to be called, grew up on Mills Ranch just North of St. Francis, helping his dad with all of the farm duties. Later moving into St. Francis, where he had attended all of his schooling. While in high school, he worked for Walter and Lucille Stevinson on their farm. After graduating in 1965, he worked for Flora Engineering Company setting REA poles. Later on, he worked for Melvin Confer as a painter until he was employed by the St. Francis Equity Co-Op as the feed department salesperson, retiring from there after 36 years.
Dave was united in marriage to Bonnie Reiman on May 27, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benkelman, Nebraska. To this union, three children were born: Julie Ann (Mills), Sean David (Straub), and Angela Rae (Sundstrom).
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alice Straub; brother Rick; nephew Ricky Straub; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include wife Bonnie, daughter Julie (Mark) Mills, son Sean (Lucinda) Straub, daughter Angela (Garrett) Sundstrom, all of St. Francis, Kansas. Grandchildren Zachery Mills, St. Francis; Aubrey (James) Mari; St. Francis, Mallery Mills, Lexington, Nebraska; Dillion (Lexi) Straub, Dalton Straub of St. Francis; Sydney and Zoe Sundstrom of Kansas City, Kansas. Great-grandchildren include Kinsley and Paisley Mari, Bryson and Tate Straub. Brothers Raymond (Shirley) Straub of Sharon Springs, Kansas and Michael Straub of Hill City, Kansas, and sister Cathy (John) Dinkel of Hill City, Kansas; sister-in-laws Kim Ritter of St. Francis and Barbara (Dennis) Pinkerton of Benkelman, Nebraska; brother-in-law Joe (Ardith) Reiman of Benkelman; nephews and nieces, and a host of other friends and family.
