Cynthia Kay Wood was born on February 8th, 1961 in Burlington Colorado to mother
Marilyn Jean Kechter and father William Harvey Wood. Cynthia grew up around Kirk, Colorado
and was always more of a tom boy, but loved to be around her mother when she was baking.
Her fondest memories growing up revolved around the holidays when all the family would
come together. The smell of her mother baking and making candy filled the air for weeks ahead
of time, and it is from her mother that she got her love of baking. When she was 14 tragedy
struck when her mother passed away, forcing her to grow up quickly. She would go on to
graduate from Liberty High School near Joes Colorado.
Cynthia married and they had 3 children, Tasha, Brent and Christina. Due to
complications during pregnancy she developed diabetes and was dependent on Insulin. Life was
never easy for Cynthia, she made many sacrifices for her children, but always made sure they
had what they needed. They would eventually settle down, calling St. Francis their home.
Cynthia would later get divorced, saying that it was the 4th happiest day of her life.
Over the years she worked many jobs, finding many lifelong friends along the way. She
was always a hard worker, but made work fun, always smiling, joking and playing practical jokes
on people. Her love of baking was evident to everyone she worked with, as she always brought
goodies for everyone to enjoy. While being a diabetic prevented her from eating these goodies,
she always joked that she had to "taste test" everything to make sure it was edible. Many of the
younger people in her life, whether it be co-workers or her children's friends, would just call her
mom. She always said that while she may have only had 3 kids, she had many more that were
adopted and loved like they were her own.
Later in life Cynthia suffered a work related accident that left her missing parts of her
fingers on her right hand. While in the hospital in Denver the nurses, jokingly and lovingly,
nicknamed her "chicken fingers" due to the nature of the accident that caused her to lose her
fingers. Just when she was starting to heal from those injuries she suffered heart problems
causing her to be flown out to Denver, where she underwent open heart surgery. Due to
complications from the surgery and her diabetes, she struggled to overcome issues related to it,
and fought it to the very end. She eventually had to be placed in the Good Samaritan Society in
Atwood Kansas.
Cynthia Kay Rogers passed away at the Good Samaritan in Atwood on Wednesday
February 26, 2025. We can have peace in knowing that she went peacefully in her sleep.
Cynthia is survived by her Sister Denise and Brother-in-law Bill Goken, Daughter Tasha and Son-
in-law Preston Trow, Son Brent Rogers, her Grandchildren Tamma and Traeton Lawson as well
as several great grand-children. Cynthia is proceeded in death by her parents Bill and Marilyn
Wood, Brothers Todd & Randy Wood, Sister Charlene Drullinger and Daughter Christina Rogers.
Cynthia's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
