Obituary

Bonnie Lue Henderson Armknecht, 92, former St. Francis resident and retired homemaker, died on November 27, 2024 at her home in Hays, Kansas.

Bonnie was born in St. Francis, KS, on July 8, 1932, the youngest child of Charlotte Elizabeth Powell Henderson (Lottie) and Onie Orval Henderson. She attended school in St. Francis, graduating from St. Francis High School in 1950. As a young teen, she became a Christian, and attended the Methodist Church in St. Francis. She worked for various businesses and families in St. Francis until her marriage to Raymond Henry Armknecht on November 18, 1951. To this union, five children were born.

The young couple lived in Kit Carson County, Colorado, then in Cheyenne County, Kansas, where they farmed for nearly 50 years, before moving to St. Francis.

Preceding her in death were her parents, six brothers: Leonard Henderson, Otis Henderson, Glen Henderson, Vergil Henderson, Ward Henderson, and Wallace Henderson, and two sisters: Dorothy LaCamp and Helen Swartwood, her daughter Joy Rae Taft, son-in-law Omer Kannady and daughter-in-law Shaunna Armknecht, and great-great-grandchild Azalea Harbour.

Survivors include sons Henry Armknecht and wife Debby of Hays, KS, Timothy Armknecht of Goodland, KS, James Armknecht and wife Esther of Dighton, KS, daughter Judy Kannady of Williamsburg, OH, son-in-law Scott Taft of Oro Valley, AZ, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services were held at Peace Lutheran Church, St. Francis, KS, on December 2, 2024, with Pastor Allen Coon as officiant. Casket bearers were her grandchildren: Doug Armknecht, Crystal Taft, Charlie Moore, Amanda Armknecht, Matt Armknecht, Justin Armknecht, Honorary Pall Bearers: Amy Estes, Jeff Taft, Scott Taft Jr., Savanna Taft, Chris Moore, Brady Kannady, and Beth Paris. Interment followed at the St. Francis Cemetery.
